The performance artist Grillo has had a long and checkered international career in the fields of performance art, street theater, and mail art. He has released many art-object CDs including Grillo Busts Open a Grape, But Officer, This is Art, and at least three different ones called Prehistoric Appliances. Also notable among Grillo's self-marketing projects: the "Grillo Cake", a mysterious object described by Grillo himself as "big and pink and waxy and smelling like a tainted cheese made of household cleanser and gulab jamun"; the "Appalachian Voodoo Totem" (an anthropomorphic construction of tree twigs and a hot dog bun); and the "Bag of Secrecy", which is a giant black bag meant to be climbed into when one desired total privacy in a public place. He has often performed entire shows inside the Bag of Secrecy. Grillo has often performed with local street musicians Retrovirus & Opportunistic Infection.
Grillo recently had a solo show at the Deatrick, Glue and Gum.
