Recurring themes in Holland's work: appalachia, nature, science, pop culture, Kentuckiana, literature, religious imagery, paranormal phenomena, clowns and circus imagery, rural scenes, nudes in unusual settings, 20's-50's musicians, settings, food, and "the unknown mysteries scryed from staring into the late-night abyss, deep in the heart of darkest America". His philosophy/theory of Invisible Topography also weighs heavily on his work, and will be the subject of a book to be released in 2005.
Holland lives in the Butchertown area of Louisville and maintains studios in several cities. His solo show Fragments of the 20th Century is currently exhibiting in Boston and another solo show, Clowns in Love, opens in NYC in February.
