Bluewater Hotel and Casino
Parker
Arizona
12 January 2002
by Sue Grout

Melody and I picked up Mary Kay at the airport in Vegas and after a stop at Shepplers (western store) for a little shopping, drove to Bluewater Casino. We made a stop at Lake Havasu to check out the London Bridge and have lunch and got into Bluewater just in time to get changed and get in line. The Bluewater Hotel and Casino is very nice. Just two and a half years old. It has a beautiful multi-level, indoor pool with a water slide. Although the concert was in their Bingo hall, and I was expecting the worse - it actually had a huge stage and the sound was great. Julie was there ahead of us and saved us a place in line so we were in the front row. Thanks Julie.

I had met a young (23) girl briefly at Montana's who said she would be at Bluewater too. Samantha found us here...she was with Kristen and some of her family who live in Blythe. They said the first time they had seen Hal was in San Diego when he had played a KSON sponsored rodeo there on June 4, 1995 (I was there too!) So these girls were 16 or 17 when they became Hal fans -- nice to see younger Hal fans too. At the first show they requested "Days of Wonder" - he didn't sing it then - but when they asked for it again at the 2nd show he remembered that they had asked for it at the 1st show - he said “I remember you” - this time, they got their request - he sang - just him and his guitar - very cool. He made them - and us - happy. That song hasn't been on his play list for several years. (I believe he wrote it for ex-wife Terrell – that probably explains why “She Is” was added to the play list at Crazy Horse.) He also heard Melody ask for "Tupelo Honey" and he sang that one too.

A Hal fan named Anna came up and introduced herself . Hi Anna (middle name is Lee, so you know which song she likes) How did you like the show???

Here's the story at Bluewater - I have friends that own a business in Havasu and they were kind enough to get us COMP tickets for the 2nd show and "they thought" entrance into the VIP pre-party. Well, as most of us know - Hal's not into that right now - so I wasn't as disappointed as I might have been if I really expected it to happen - BUT - the manager, came up after the 1st show - she wanted to know about the sign I had that lights up with words in red - so we told her we had the COMP tickets for the 2nd show and asked her if we could keep our seats - she let us - but when I asked her if she had liked the 1st show - we got an earful. She was basically ticked that Hal hadn't followed through with the VIP pre-party and didn't care now if she ever met him. We found ourselves defending him and told her he really wasn't feeling that great and not to take it personal - that he rarely, if ever does these anymore. She said they never have more than 20 people (this is an Indian casino - these people come to gamble - most of them are senior citizens and could care - hence the small number) and she felt, very strongly, that as an entertainer, he should meet his fans that “are still interested.”

After the show we sat in the bar and watched a lounge show, lost a little money in the Video Power games – Indian Casinos don’t have Roulette, my favorite, so no luck here either.
