Hal's Gals By Sherrill Winzler ![]() This Hal Ketchum craze is hard to perceive What's happened to families you wouldn't believe. Many great grandmas, teenagers too And even some men, WHAT SHALL WE DO? They would give up their homes, their kids and their stock Just to follow this guy, WHAT HAS HE GOT? ![]() I heard of a grandma, the words out I'm sure; Who broke both her ankles as she raced cross the floor To catch a glimpse of his 'killer smile' She envisions him looking at her all the while Sitting with her at her table alone Singing his love song, 'Another Day Gone'. ![]() The house don't get swept, the kids don't get fed, They're all listening to Hal Ketchum instead I wonder somehow if this guy's for real A myth? A fantasy? Why all the zeal? I wonder if they've all been in the gin Thinking they might fall in love again? ![]() I've heard of a lady hung panting the rail At one of his concerts, she landed in jail. But she didn't care, she was happy I know With Hal's music beside her, she seemed all aglow She didn't remember even where she'd been Her face was tattooed with a Cheshire Cat grin. ![]() My sister's gone nuts, no doubt about it She's not even ashamed to shout about it. She sent me CD's saying, "give him a listen" I hate to admit, but my eyes gave a glisten She begged, "let's go see him", I said, "don't get up tight, But I like my Small Town on Saturday Night". ![]() Then one day last summer she insisted I go To one of his concerts, I thought "OH NO" What she's trying to do, it's so plain to see Is to drag me into this wild fricassee. What about my image, my family, my friends? Life as I know it would come to an end. ![]() We stood in line for the tickets, we waited outside I go so tired I sat down and cried. I thought, "What's wrong with these people?" They're possessed, I could see This kind of stuff is not right for me. They screamed, they cried, they swooned and the sighed I've heard it said that for him some have died. ![]() Hours later we got in, I felt I was caged AND THEN HAL KETCHUM CAME OUT ON THE STAGE! I think you all know the rest of the tale I can't explain it, but I started to fail I got weak in the knees, relaxed in the head "More!" I screamed, "MORE!" and still "MORE!" I said. ![]() I've joined Hal's Gals line and sinker I'm hooked And that is why I am writing this book. Wherever he sings, "Someplace Far Away" We're on our way to him and that's where we'll stay. We're "Past The Point of Rescue", in "Sure Love" this time We'll go where he is if we've got a dime. ![]() Looks like I am lost, what will I do now? I've sold the farm, store, car and the cow. I've spent all my money to get to his show The greyhound bus is all that I know. The front of it reads, "HAL KETCHUM OR BUST!" That's right you guessed it, I'm driving the bus. ![]() |
