Boulder Station
Las Vegas
Nevada
11 JANUARY 2002

I drove to Vegas on Thursday, went to a Vegas type show that night. Christopher told me that Hal would be adding 10 dates to his tour schedule somewhere around or in between the Denver (April 12) and New Mexico (June 29) shows that are already posted. He wasn’t sure of the locations, he did mention Montana. Hopefully WESTFEST (June 27-30) will be one of them. He’s scheduled for New Mexico on June 29 – but WESTFEST is a 3-day festival – so hopefully, they’ll book him.

Picked Melody (from Colorado) up at the airport on Friday afternoon - did a little sightseeing - then went over to Boulder Station. Ran into Julie there and found Sunny and Ken (first in line of course).

Some other Hal fans found us at this show - "Sis" (from Mary's website) and her sister – drove in from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hal sang basically the same set as at Montana's although no Tupelo Honey here - which Melody was waiting for. The show was good and the sound at Boulder is great. They've also fixed the little problem they had the last time Hal was there of color lights blinding the audience in the first 2 or 3 rows. Hal said he was a little "raspy" - his voice was a little rough - he sounded just fine to me. Gina flew in to meet him here and brought out some juice & set in on the riser in front of the drums. He called her back out "Yo Gina" and introduced her (see pictures). He talked a little, and at one point growled really loud like a bear, and then said 'Daddy being scawwy (Scary)'

We were in the second row & a few people came up by us to take pictures - I handed one 'girl' a card I had made up with a few of Hal's websites on it (like Jodi's, Mary's, Diane's, etc.) I thought if they're taking pictures – they’re "fans". She said to me "oh I'm just taking pictures for my girlfriend, and I'm going to get his autograph for her" (I thought sure you are (!) . Then (sorry fans and Hal) SHE said, "he's old and fat and I don't find him attractive" what I said was "You should have seen him in '94...wait 'til he smiles in your direction" - what I was thinking is you "B_____" -- Then SHE says - do you mind if I stay here and take some pictures (she was squatting down by me) - what I said was -- "as long as security doesn't mind" - What I was thinking was "if I moved my elbow into her shoulder - she'd fall right on her butt!" The couple in front of me was ticked by her remark too.

A couple of songs later, she approaches the stage with a pen and something she wanted signed. I think Hal thought she was going to hand him flowers or something - he leaned over the stage - saw what she wanted - (All of us who had heard her remarks were thinking - DON'T YOU DARE SIGN THAT) He said something to her like....'I'm singing here, later' - and didn't sign. She just didn't get that IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC (ok it doesn't hurt when he smiles in your direction.)

Didn't do as well at roulette as I did last time I was at Boulder Station, but we had a fun time - went to pick up Mary Kay (from St. Louis) on Saturday morning -- then on to Bluewater.
