They must live somewhere west of the
Mississippi River because the radio
and TV stations start with "K" instead
of "W". Oregon is a good guess. Evergreen
Terrace was supposedly named after Evergreen
College in Oregon. |

The Simpsons live in Springfiled, Ohio. Marge is
in the kitchen on teh phone giving her address with
Lisa in the room when Maude Flanders walks in.
" 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield... Oh hiya Maude,
come on in." ("Oh hiya"=Ohio) |

I think they live in Kalamazoo, MI, I saw the episode
where Homer has his license revoked for drunk driving,
and the zipcode is 49007, which is the zipcode of Kalamazoo,
MI. The license does say Sprigfield, NT, I think it is
merely a throw off. |

Well they must live on of the two states because on
one episode when they go on spring break the cross off
all the states they have been kicked out of expect fot two.
I don't remember what the two were but they must live in one
of them. Also they don't live in Springfield, Massachusetts
like lots of people think because in the globex episode when
they moved back to springfield there was a story in the paper
that said that Mr. scorpio had wipe out the east coase which
included Massachusetts. |

Hands down, it's New York. Numerous quotes back it up.
Gramp " I was voted best looking boy in Albany New York"
Skinner " It's a regional dialect,from Upstate New York"
Superintendent Chalmers" I'm from Utica and I've never
heard it" When Marge is delivering pretzels she takes an
order for deliveryover the phone and takes the address as
Meat Packers union hall, Batavia, New York. Also, there was
a person names Jebidiah Sangerfeld who settled in Upstate
New York, near Utica. In fact there is a town callded
Sangerfeldand the town has a Sangerfeld mall. |
Dan Schmitz
The Simpson's live in MO. In the Area code split
episode, area code 636 is in MO. |

In one of there show's that i seen not that long
ago when they were talking about New York and that
New York took them about half of a a day, so i think
they live some place near New York the state and it's NC. |

The Simpsons do not live in Illinois or Massachusetts,
because Herb does not buy a train ticket to either of those
places in 'Brother, can you spare two dimes?'. I think they
live in California, because: In 'Principal Charming', the
SIP codes (90701 and 90702) correspond to Artesia, California.
Homer's social security number is 568-47-0008, and the 568
prefix is typically issued in California. Medfly spraying is
done only in California. In 'Hurricane Neddy', Ned talks about
people "back east." In 'The secret war of Lisa Simpson', the
kids believe the're going to Disneyland buy car, so Springfield
must be in California or an adjioning state. |

Springfield is fictional town, and isn't meant to be any
real Springfield. Multipe episodes reveal detail about where
Springfield may be, but give conflicting evidence. When Marge
says their address and is interupted by Maude Flanders,
she says "743 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield...Oh hiya Maude."
This doesn't say anything except that the writers of the show
know that people want to know where Springfield is. In the episode
where the illegal immigrants were deproted, Lisa points to
Springfield on a map for Apu, but is clearly standing on the
east side of the map and is to short to reach very far west
or north. When the Simpsons went to New York City, Homer tells
the story of his first time in NY, and mentions that he had to
stop there on the way to Springfield.
No real Springfield has been visited by that many former
presidents, the pope, Steve Hawkings, Tony Bennett, Ringo Star,
Sting, Roger Clemens, Ken Griffey, Mickey Rooney, Paul and Linda
McCartney, Leonard Nemoy, Hugh Hefner, Smashing Pumpkins, and all
the other celebrites who have appeared on the show. No real
Springfield has a gorge, mountains, a nuclear power plant,
general hospital, a downtown area, international airport,
ocean shoers, an absense of McDonalds restaurants, legalized
gambling, a dog track, and all the other characterisitcs of
the Simpsons Springfield. Finally, in the episode Behing the
Laughter, the narrator clearly calls the Simpsons a Northern
Kentucky family. |

in the episode Behing the Laughter,
the narrator clearly calls the
Simpsons a Northern Kentucky family
So i looked on a map and clear as day, the was
archrival town sits as Homer would say " " called
Simpsontown, Kentucky, near the top(north, Ralphy)
close dead center of the the state east to west.
As far as being a quiet little burg, I live in So Calif
the mecca of all happining cool things, and i can only
dream, if that, of having even whiff of cat's catfood
breath worth of Homer's Daily routine of climbing the
highest mountains, acting in movies, touring the US
taking cannonball blasts, traveling to far off lands, not
to mention seeing those places from the space shuttle
the surviving, more surgeries than days he has caused
major catastrophies, and yet still can dream of the
land of chocolate, in Sector 7G at the nookcyular
power plant.
He DOES still work there, doesnt he?
I think it's obvious that I DON'T |

Jeff is 100% correct. I beleive there is a springfield and Shelbyville in kentucky BUT that means there could not be an ocean (seen in numerous episodes, Homer took his lobster to the beach, there is a lighthouse, and a hurricane was RIGHT over their house, Krusty took his daughter to the beach and a lot of the Springfield cicizens were there) They have sometimes EXTREMELY hot summers, and cold snowy winters. This is OBVIOSLY cold PROOF that they have NO actual place were they live. In new kids on the bleech, they were very close to NYC because they blew up the building were they did the storyboarding and such for MAD magezine.
No one will ever figure out were the simpsons live, because, as Jeff said, the town is Fictional. (By the way, in Lemon Of Troy, there was a Lemon tree. I don't know were they can grow but maybe it is signifigant to prove my point. It is citrus. Can citrus fruits grow in NY?)
But this is the way the writers WANT it to be. It is a running gag, not to be figured out! Also, it leaves their climate and geography WIDE open, not constrictated so they can have more adventures. |
XPlatinumSkaterX
the simpsons live in kentucky, and there are a few reasons that state it for sure
1. the sugar ban episode - they tell homer they are going to get sugar from "south of the border" and homer says "Oh, you mean Tenessee?" that narrows it down to kentucky, missouri, and west virginia
2. in the behind the laughter episode they state that the simpsons are a kentucky family
3. for the record i did do atlas work and in kentucky, shelbyville and springfield were in the same square, when other states i checked that had both a shelbyville and springfield, they were no where near each other. |

Reguarding where the simpsons live, I wanted to add some interesting info. Wasn't Matt Groening born in Oregon, Lived in North Portland I think. Anyways Oregon has mountains, an ocean, Springfield, and had a nuclear power plant that resembles the one in the simpsons. The mere fact that he was born and raised in Oregon is a noteworthy point. As far as "all" of the conflicting evidence that could be chocked up to creative liberty, and just messing with peoples heads. Anyways thats my two cents. |
Simpsons retentive
I think that it should not be overlooked that the Simpsons
live in Springfield, Massachusetts. For starters, it has similar
climate. It is both warm and cold (always wearing shorts and T-shirt, and
the blizzard that trapped the school students). It also has an ocean
(Pinchy the Lobster, EARL, and other such episodes). In the episode where
the Simpsons go to Japan, they go out to dinner at "America town" and
the table they sit at is Massachusetts...coincidence? I think not. Their
Springfield as the one in Massachusetts both have forests, mountains,
and other such landmarks. I'm not stating that it clearly IS
Massachusetts because it clearly is NOT anything at all! I'm just saying not to
count Mass out. |

The "Simpson's" live in Virginia, near the ocean, runs
right down I95, and they are always talking about
Capitol City, which if you look on a map the nations
capital is only about 15miles from Springfield,Va. If
you add all the clues up, and noone has to my
knowledge guessed Virginia, that is where my money
goes. |
ryo-ohki
OK based on the facts and the given clues the Simpsons don't actually live in A Springfield they live in all Springfield's. That's the only way everything makes sense. Because in the episodes where hints where dropped point to a state with a Springfield. Although you can't deny that if they actually had a state it would be Kentucky most likely because it's the only state where Springfield and Shelbyville are close to each other and in the northern part of the state (according to "Behind the Laughter") But as I said before if you listen to the clues then it's merely suggestive which state in which they live in. Take for example when Lisa showed Apu Springfield on the map, because she's too short it seems that she's pointing at Illinois and there are other episodes that lead me to believe that that was there state and I could give more examples but I'm tired of typing |

I find it interesting that no one has considered a southwestern state
as a possible home for Homer and his family. I am convinced that they live
in either Colorado, Arizona or perhaps California. First, the only
football team that is mentioned in the series is the Denver Broncos, and on
several occasions. Also there seems to be a lot of desert climate in the show.
And believe me...there CAN be blizzards in Colorado! And Colorado is a
desert climate. Gambling and Los Vegas seems to pop up on an occasional
episode. One decent hint is revealed: In one show, Lisa admits that
the state they live in is one of the seven (or eight?) states that George
Bush Sr. resides in. Might want to check that out. At least it narrows it
down abit! |
Shannon NEW!!!
i think the arguments for oregon are really compelling (groening grew
up
there, they have a power plant, beaches, etc.), BUT i think that you
can't
count out ohio... living in massachusetts and having, among other
things
common with the simpsons' springfield, the most royal of political
families--THE KENNEDYS, who have an accent and lifestyle well-mocked
and
imitated by the quimbys--i thought for a long time it was springfield
mass.
but, (1) in treehouse of horror IV, the attack of the 50ft eyesores,
one of
the destroyed buildings is labeled, "the birthplace of norman vincent
peale." NVP was born in bowersville, ohio... 40 mins or so from
springfield,
ohio according to mapquest. (2) i think in the same episode, they go
to mr.
burns' home in pennsylvania, which borders ohio. (3) ohio is on a
great
lake, which could easily provide beach scenes that pop up in numerous
episodes. (4) when rainier wolfcastle's daughter breaks up with bart,
she
goes to toronto to film wolfcastle's next movie. the simpsons go to
toronto
to follow her and take a bus... toronto is RIGHT ACROSS THE LAKE and
easily
accessible by bus route. (5) barney drives homer's car to new york city
and
the simpsons go to retrieve it... ohio is definitely within driving
distance
of nyc whereas oregon is not. this last one might be weak but, (6) when
they
do the civil war reenactment in "the sweetest apu" skinner says "the
second
battle of springfield was fought between the north, the south, and the
east
to keep springfield in, out of, and next to the union respectively"
(implying that springfield is north and west) i don't know where the
line
between east and west are, but i would say ohio could definitely be
considered north and probably considered somewhat west.
