Autumn Shade
Sonnet 2
In the darkest parts of the darkest streets
Lives a shade the shadows fear
He hides behind trees and scattered leaves
Waking from his sleep which lasts the year
Riding softly behind October winds
Searching the night for a separate peace
And thus the shades reign begins
As the king of autumn and every feast
But when his kingdom finally falls
And winters icy reign unfolds
Then the shade slowly crawls
To the haunted streets the darkness holds
And sleep he will again once more
'Til October winds knock on his door.
