Two Houses

Two houses stood
on opposite sides
of a tree-shaded street.
The street, newly-laid,
was a shining strip of
opalled sea.
Each house,
with an aspect of hate,
stared, with squinted window
eyes, across the onyx river.
With malice, a fore thought,
both homes spewed
venomous liquid
out of their
leaf laden
gutters.
Short shot, the poison
trickled down malevolent
sidewalks, pooling atop
the black beam.
Voraciously eating away,
the venom seeped
into newly formed
cracks, mars upon
a once beautiful black velvet street.
Long after the road, was once
again dirt, the houses stared
and spit beneath a shining
sun.
