Driving Tips

So, you're looking for some help with Gran Turismo 3? Well, you've come to the right place. We've compiled all sorts of little tips and tricks for your viewing pleasure. If you have any tips, feel free to send them to Dreamofzs or lzpt6k. We'll be more than happy to add your tip to our list.

1st. Can't find the car you want? Just look at our carlist. It tells you everything you need. It has the min/max hp of every single car, the price of every single car, and it'll tell you where you can win that car. It's printer friendly too.

2nd. Did you go through the entire series, only to get a car you already have? Well, here's a tip: If you finish 1st in the first 7 races of a 10 race series, save your game after the 7th race. Skip the last three races because you'll have enough points to win the championship. Now, you can save it after the 9th race, so it takes less time. Did you get the car you wanted? No? Then reload that game save, and try again until you do get the car you want. It also works in all other series of 5, and 7. For 5, just save it after the 4th race. For 7, just save it after the 5th race. You will always get the car you want this way. Keep in mind that this only works if you finish 1st in all races prior to the save. You may have to win an extra race if you place 2nd, or 3rd, and then save it. Happy car shopping!

3rd. Those pesky computer drivers beating you in the vitz, clio, VW cup, and other races where everyone has the same car? Well, go have a look at our setups page. The setups for the cars shown are guaranteed and proven to beat the AI. The setups are also some of the fastest times possible with that car on any given track. So, if you're just looking to get a better handling car, look no further.

4th. Have you ever wanted to leave the track on Seattle II, or Cote D' Azur? Well, you can! On Cote D' Azur, turn #4(the downhill into the U-Turn) you'll see a crack in the barrier on the left side with a road behind it. We used an F1 car for verification. Well, get up to about 120+mph going down the hill and head straight for the crack. If you hit the left wall first, it will not work. You have to hit it dead center. If you hit it just right, your car will get wedged in the crack. Just keep on flooring it, and you should push your way to the other side! Now you can drive all around the outside of the track! Be careful though, you can re-enter the track very easily if you get too close. It's like you're driving on air! If you don't get it the first time, don't fret, just keep trying until you do. You'll eventually get it.
For Seattle II, it's the same principal. On the main straight, where the finish line is, you'll find another crack at the end of on the right side this time. It's right before the quick left/right chicane. We also used an F1 car for this one too. You'll need to be at 160+mph for this one. As with Cote D' Azur, you cannot hit the right wall before hitting the crack. You must hit it dead on! If you did it correctly you should now be wedged into the crack. Again, floor it, and you'll force your way through to the other side. This one isn't as spectacular as Cote D' Azur, but it's cool non the less. Try it. It took us 3-5 times before we got it. There is no point to any of this, but it's just something to do if you get bored with the game.(YOU SHOULDN'T BE BORED WITH GRAN TURISMO 3!!!)

5th. Can't beat the license tests? Just go to the Replay theatre. It'll have all the replays for getting gold. Just watch what the pro- grammers did to achieve this time. It helps.

6th. Can't beat the arcade mode Time Trials? Well, pay attention to the dashes on the road. Blue is full acceleration, white is coasting, and Red is braking. If you stay on the dashes and follow the color coordinated lines, you should have no problem. Also, have the ghost on. You can judge off your last attempt whether or not you're going faster or not. You can also improve the time by trying to go faster through the turns than your ghost. If your ghost is ahead of you, just exit, and start over immediately, cause your probably not going to catch it, especially if your only like .100 off from getting the gold.

7th. Are you using the X button and SQUARE button for acceleration and braking? Try switching to the analog sticks for gas and brake. Setup the right analog stick to "up" for acceleration, and "down" for braking. This lets you push up a little, and only accelerate a little. This controller config could help prevent some of those darn oversteer problems that make you spin out. It may take a while to get use to them, but once you use them, you'll never go back to using the buttons again.

8th. Looking for more speed on the Test Course? Just go to the setup for the car and lower the TCS, and ASM a couple notches. This will free up some HP, and increase your top speed a bit in the corners so you have a better top speed at the end of the straight-away.
