Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec Tricks and Codes

Hints

1. Whenever you get a new car, change the oil before anything else, it could add up to 60hp to your car.

2. To get the car you want when there are one of four cars you can get(only on series circuits). First race to the second to last race and lead second place by at least second place. Then race the last race then save your game without exiting the circuit. Then start the last race, but exit the race, you will remain in first place and your car will be awarded, if you are not happy with the car, load your game and exit the last race again. Repeat until you get the car you want.

That's right... We've got the settings to get your Suzuki Escudo going faster than the speed of sound and the screenshot to prove it. Follow the settings and instructions and with enough practice, you should get a top speed of more than 1000 MPH as shown in the screenshot. All that we're wondering is... Where is the sonic boom?

This is how to get the low gear ratios that are listed.

First set your final ratio to 2.000
Then change the auto setting to level 24
now change the final to 4.999
and finaly set the auto setting to level 48

now you should be able to get the low gear ratios
Start off on the test track. You have to turn the car around and go backwards to get to the starting point. Start about half way in the turn and try to exit doing about 230mph. Just hold the gas and start to take off.

Play in Professional Mode

To play in Professional Mode, go to the difficulty select screen of Arcade Mode. Press and hold L1 and R1 and the word "Professional" will replace the word "Hard." Select Professional to take you to that mode. Professional mode eliminates handicaps for the computerized racers, giving you a much tougher challenge.

Bonus tracks

Complete each tier of tracks in arcade mode on any difficulty setting to unlock the next tier of tracks:

Tier 1 Super Speedway, Midfield Raceway, Smokey Mountain, Swiss Alps, Trial Mountain, Midfield Raceway II.

Tier 2 Smokey Mountain II, Tokyo R246, Grand Valley Speedway, Laguna Seca Raceway, Rome Circuit, Tahiti Circuit.

Tier 3 Swiss Alps II, Trial Mountain II, Deep Forest Raceway II, Special Stage Route 5, Seattle Circuit, Test Course.

Killer intro strategy submitted by sven To start out the game and get a huge head start on it follow these instructions. Choose a Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex or the 128 hp Mazda MX-5 Miata as your first car. Go win the Sunday Cup, then the Clubman Cup (with any necessary upgrades), and sell whichever prize car is the duplicate. Now you should have enough money to buy T2 (super-slick) tires for your Miata (if not, go get some more). Equip the tires and get an oil change for your Miata to boost it's hp up to about 132. Now go enter the Roadster Endurance race at Apricot Hill. This will require an IA license (you're going to get it eventually, why not now?). The race will take about 70 minutes and since this is a normal tuned miata race, the competition shouldn't be too difficult to win over. With the T2 tires, you should only have to pit one or two times during the race, while the rest of the field pits at least 5 times in the race. Your superior pit strategy will give you a great advantage over your opponents. It is also required that you can drive decently, and not make too many big mistakes. Being a relatively easy course driven with a slow car, you shouldn't have any trouble at all if you honestly got your IA license. Cutting the chicane (s-turn) also helps. The prize money for winning is 100,000 cr, and, if you're lucky, you will also get an F688/S, one of the top 6 best cars in the game. If the F688/S fails to show its face, you can use the 100 grand to buy a decent car, and win the Seattle 100 or Super Speedway. The prize for these races is 200 grand and 150 grand respectively, and a pretty fast car (400+ hp) is guaranteed, not to mention the possibility of getting another F1. Things will go uphill from there.
Getting out of tracks submitted by sven You can actually leave some tracks in the game and drive around in the open air and among the background, here's how. First you have to find a point where two barrier converge at a sharp corner (about 90*) somewhere on the track (notable examples are at the ends of the Seattle Circuit start/finish straight). then you have to line yourself up just right so you hit the apex of the corner dead on so the two barriers are hit by your car at almost exactly the same time. You have to impact it at 160 mph or more or it won't work. If you do it right, your car will kind of phase through the wall to an open area outside the closed track. If you can manage to get outside with the Escudo with the proper settings (see above) then you can achieve speeds in excess of 2 billion mph, which can be useful in conducting high mileage experiments or just plain having fun.
