The Atom

Following is a list of heroes, allies, and friends that have made appearances in the Atom's life. The list is alphabetized by last name if applicable.

A

Allen, Barry - aka the Flash - Barry was one of the original members of the JLA who voted for the induction of the Atom as the seventh member of the team. Ray and Barry hit it off as friends with their common background as scientists. Barry Allen perished during the Crisis on Infinite Earths, sacrificing his life while destroying the Anti-Monitor's primary weapon.

Argent - aka Monetti, Toni - member of the New Teen Titans - Argent was a new heroine created by the H'San Natall genetic manipulation project. She banded together with several others who had been changed by the H'San Natall and, led by the Atom, formed the new Teen Titans. The group broke up when their members went their seperate ways, due to differences in direction of their lives. Toni elected to remain on Earth and joined the newest version of the Teen Titans.

Atom I - Golden Age Atom aka Al Pratt - see Pratt, Al.

Atom II - Silver Age Atom aka Ray Palmer - see Palmer, Ray.

Atom III - Modern Age Atom aka Adam Cray - see Cray, Adam.

Atom IV - DC One Million Age Atom - First introduced in the DC One Million Special, this Atom is the only survivor of an alien race whose universe was wiped out by our own. The Atom survived by entering our universe as it destroyed his own and he became trapped here. His powers are related to the shrinking Atom, in that he can reduce his height. However, when Atom IV shrinks, his additional mass is split into multiple beings. So that when he is roughly 3' in height, there are two of him. And when he is roughly 2' in height, there are three of him. And so on. The Atom uses his unique abilities to form atomic structures to create chemical compounds and reactions. He is a scientist by nature and very intelligent.

Atom-Smasher - aka Nuklon - son of Al Pratt

Batman - see Wayne, Bruce

Black Canary - see Lance, Dinah

C

Captain Marvel, Jr. - member of the New Teen Titans

Cray, Adam - aka Atom III. Adam took up the size-weight belt during a time when Ray Palmer wished to sink into anonymity. Adam (as the Atom) was a member of the Suicide Squad and worked for Mrs. Waller there. He was killed when Blacksnake, a member of the Micro/Squad, stabbed him in the back with a large nail.

H

Hall, Carter - aka Hawkman I

Harper, Roy - aka Arsenal - formerly Speedy

Hawkman - Since the origin of Hawkman has been so changed in recent years, the Atom's relationship to the Hawkman of Carter Hall is difficult if not impossible to define. Considering that the Atom in his early years both as a solo crime fighter and as a member of the JLA used to team up with Carter on a regular basis makes this even more difficult. Currently, Hawkman is a combination of all of the previous incarnations of the Hawkmen who have passed from generation to generation. The person of Carter Hall (as a result of Crisis) was changed so that he was JSA only, yet given an extremely long life. He was human and could have been a participant in several of the Atom's team-ups. However, as a result of Crisis, Hawkman I was trapped in Limbo helping to stave off Ragnarok. This left Hawkman II, Katar Hol the Thanagarian, free to continue as the new Hawkman. But because of the Hawkworld series, Hawkman II was no longer an Earth hero, but a dirty policeman on Thanagar. This new Hawkman II retconned most everything that was known of the previous version, and eventually he came to Earth and merged with the Hawkmen, including Carter Hall (Hawkman I) who had been released from Limbo, forming an all new Hawkman who has the memories, strengths, and powers of all of them.

Hol, Katar - aka Hawkman II

J

J'onzz, J'onn - aka John Jones aka the Martian Manhunter - associate of the Atom in the JLA.

Jordan, Hal - aka Green Lantern II, aka Parallax - One of Ray's closest friends in the JLA, Hal was the best of the best GL's until the destruction of Coast City unbalanced his mind and he turned into the nearly unstoppable Parallax. Parallax plotted to remake time and fix anything in the past that he felt should not have happened. The heroes, including the Atom, stopped him, although many (such as the Golden Age Atom) paid the ultimate price and Ray was de-aged during the Zero Hour episode that was engineered by Parallax. Hal met his final(?) fate at the hands(?) of the Sun Eater during Final Night, sacrificing himself to destroy it and saving Earth in the process.

Joto - aka Isaiah Crockett - Sixteen year old teenager who burst into flames one day at Ivy University. The Atom went to investigate and became caught up in an alien abduction along with Joto. Joto turned out to be a human-alien hybrid experiment that the Psions were collecting and the Atom smashed their plans, saving not only Joto but Risk, Argent, and Prysm as well. They returned to Earth to form the Teen Titans. Joto took the name 'Scorcher' for a short time before adopting Joto as his code name. Joto perished while trying to absorb all the heat energy from a raging blaze, giving up his life to save that of Jupiter Loren. Joto was later 'revived' by the H'Sann N'Tal who intended to use his body in their continued experiment. He miraculously became 'aware' again and lived once more. Joto was released by the Psions and returned to Earth. The Titans broke up at this time and Isaiah has been seen little since.

Justice League of America - the first team that the Atom joined - he was the seventh member of the League, following the original members of the Flash, Green Lantern, Black Canary, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter and their first new recruit in Green Arrow. The Atom was a mainstay of the League for many years, aiding them when his powers were useful, but finding that often his size-weight changing powers proved to be simply ineffective in certain situations. The Atom formally left the League after his maritial problems started and afterwards disappeared into the Amazon jungle. He has since then returned and rejoined back with the League, but due to his de-aging at the hands of Extant, he has taken a leave of absence. Recently, he was seen aiding the League against the probability altering machine of Dr. Julius September.

Palmer, Raymond - Alter ego of the Atom II

Pratt, Al - aka Atom I. Originally from Earth-2, since the Crisis from the only Earth. Atom I was a member of the JSA and one of its founding members. Al was a typical 98 pound weakling until he took lessons from a boxing pro. Learning expert level moves, he was good enough to go on to boxing fame and could have been a contender for the title, but chose to adopt a costume and fight as a non-powered member of the JSA. Later in his career during a battle with a cosmic powered entity, he gained the ability to deliver a super-powered Atomic Punch. He retired from heroics during the fifties, only to rejoin Ray Palmer (Atom II) and the regrouping of the JSA when he was called. He continued off and on for many years, marrying Mary James and 'semi-adopting' a godson who would later become Nuklon. Atom I perished during Zero Hour when Extant unleashed chronal energies on several JSAers, aging them almost instantly to a natural death.
