BIG LAKE
Yercaud Lake

The first thing that strikes your eye when You are in Yercaud is the Big Lake. The main attraction of Yercaud is the cool lake surrounded by greenery all around. It is the biggest lake of the hill station. This lake is surrounded by a flower garden on one side. The garden is well groomed and best seen during the month of May when the Summer festival is organised and the funds are rolling in for the local authorities. At other times as well, it is worth a visit. It is bounded by a wall overlooking the plants and the lake.

So, You could just sit around on the parapet wall and enjoy the view of the plants and the lake. The lake is a picturesque pool surrounded by gardens and well wooded trees. In the centre of the lake is an island that is covered by an overbridge to the mainland. The island is home to a couple of deer and peacocks. You could go around the fenced island if You don't mind getting scratched by some bushes and getting your leg into a little muck.

One can avail of the boating facilities available here. Boats come in two options. Paddling ones for a couple or four and the other type where there is a guy rowing it for you as you relax. Boating in the cold water of the lake is enhancing as well as refreshing. Let me strictly warn you that it is advised that You sit calm in the boat lest You want it to topple over and send You straight to heaven or hell.

Yercaud Lake

The lake is reputed to have a history of a number of deaths... good swimmers have gone down and never turned up.But don't get scared ...a little caution practised and there's nothing to worry.

ANNA PARK
Anna Park is a garden near the lake. A park for children with a few slides for the kiddies to play around is just next door to Anna park.

KILLIYUR FALLS
This 300 feet high waterfall is situated amidst picturesque surroundings. The water comes via a stream all the way from the Big Lake. It is quite distant and worth the walk through the woods if You are'nt a lazy slob.

SMALL LAKE
This lake is situated very close to town. The lake is reputed to be fed by seven wells. The lake is bounded by a road,a quarter of which is mucky! yucky! Towards one end of the lake is Montfort School and towards the other end is the town.

LADY'S SEAT

One of the best views that Yercaud promises. You get a panoramic view of the ghats and all the distant vehicles dwindling their way in and out of trees along the winding ghat road.It surely is a breath-taking view. You can have a closer view of the plains below with the help of the telescope mounted at the Lady's Seat. (available only during the day at the cost of Re1/- per head)

A view of Sterling Resorts and the ghats below

This view is spectacular at night with the twinkling lights of Salem town in sight. It gives a feeling of looking over a bed of twinkling diamonds and if You are lucky to have a moonlit night..nothing could be more romantic!

Towards your extreme right in the distance You get to see the Mettur Dam that generates power out of the river Kaveri. The best time to spot the river is around evening 3:00 onwards when the suns rays reflect off the river waters. On Your extreme left You get to see the city of Salem -steel producing city.

THE THEATRE
I sincerely would'nt advise you to try this one. It is the main hangout for the local estate working folks and let us leave it that way! But if You are still interested..go ahead..it runs not too old Tamil movies.

GANDHI PARK
This (park?) is situated right in the centre of town. The only time it is considered a park is when it is GANDHIJI'S birthday and a few politicos garland the statue after cleaning the park in the hope that their muck will get splashed in the next day's newspaper. Nobody is allowed in.
