PAGODA POINT
The green view early in the morning.

This is also another   vantage  view point. Once upon a time a beautiful place   adorned    with   stone  built pagodas, it is now home to a huge temple.

The neighbourhood is splashed with erratic buildings that is a real turn off.
Yet, if You have'nt been here.
Don't miss it.

The best time to visit it is during the night or early morning. It gives You a total   new   view  of  Salem  and  a  voyeur's   view  over  the little  village  called  Kakambadi. The cliffs on the opposite side are fabulous and any rock climber would'nt be able to resist the temptation to scale them.

GRANGE
GRANGE  The Castle - like building was built by the then Collector of Salem, Mr.M.D. Cockburn who first introduced Coffee from Arabia, Apples and other fruits from South Africa between 1820 and 1829 A.D. It is believed to be the summer resort of Robert Clive - The British Big Wig of the East India Company way back in the late 1800's.It is now the house of My close friend and is out of bounds for tourists. So don't venture near lest You want to get bitten by a few hounds!

BEAR'S CAVE
It is situated near the Norton Bungalow on the way to Servaroyan Temple. A huge cave formation beside a fantastic bungalow that was supposed to play home for the bears. It is an important tourist spot worth the visit. This is also private property and since the owner has the kindness to keep it open for tourists, You have to do him a good turn by keeping the place clean and not destroying plants.

SHEVAROYAN HILL
This is the third highest range in this part with a modern cave temple at its top. The hill top is bald with a real open view of all the hills around. It presents another angle of the distant town. The adjacent hill is gradually chopped (mined) off daily as it is a very rich source of Bauxite.

MONTFORT SCHOOL

This is a  famous educational institution at Yercaud imparting education to boys. The Montfort School has a zoo which is open to the public ONLY on Sundays. The School possesses an excellently designed Church. It is really worth a visit if You love architectural masterpieces and have the sense to respect the sanctity of a place of worship.

THE 60 FOOT BRIDGE  &    SALEM VIEW
A waterfall along the ghat road

On your way up or down the ghats do stop by the huge bridges and really feel lost in the wilderness.

SALEM VIEW
Salem View (between 16th and 17th bends) is also worth a stop on Your way down or up.

THE SHEVAROYAN TEMPLE
It is situated on the Servaroyan Hills. The tribals here celebrate their Annual Festival in May every year. The temple houses a cave that supposedly was the getaway tunnel of the king who lived around in those times. No, the cave is not penetrable as denudation has clogged it for decades.

THE RETREAT

Started in 1945 by the brothers of Don Bosco, this institution serves as a 'Novitiate House' where students of religious order stay and study. A sure "Don't miss" place. It tops my list of must see places. One of the most breath taking views of the cliffs on the right and Salem way below. If You are at The Retreat during noon-time,don't miss out on reading the sun-dial located at the view point. Open to the public on Sundays.

A
visual treat at Retreat
