A Busy Day

The day began with a trip to wine country.  The drive was about an hour.  We put the top down on the car and turned up the tunes to pass the time.

When we got to wine country we went to the Modavi vineyard and took a tour that showed how wine is made and concluded with a tasting.  After the Modavi winery we visited a vineyard owned by Francis Ford Coppola.  After viewing some Godfather memorabilia, they offered us some wine to taste and we couldn't refuse.  In the winery they had a good quote up on a board it read: "I took the time it would have taken to mope and wrote a song --Duke Ellington".  I was getting the sense that visiting any more vineyards could make for a hazardous trip home so we got back in the convertible and drove mildly buzzed along the California back roads a la Fear and Loathing.

On the way back from Wine Country we stopped at Muir Woods, a national park with giant red woods.  On the way there we pulled over to take this picture, tentatively titled "too goons by the city by the bay".

The trees were big and the woods seemed primeval.  I soon began to worry that a wild California mountain lion would exact a horrible revenge on me in reparation for ills inflicted on his domesticated little cousins.  Luckily I escaped unscathed.  On they way back from the woods we stopped at the golden gate bridge and I ran across it.

We finished the day by going to a game at Pac Bell Park.  It started to mist around the 6th inning but it was a great experience.  We saw a few home runs and had a few beers.  Here's a picture of Sammy Sosa at bat.

Overall a good day but enough for now.  How and I need to get some rest before the big drive tomorrow.
