Welcome to the web site for the church of St.Mary-the-Virgin, Little Burstead. Our village is about a mile south of Billericay, in the county of Essex, about 20 miles to the East of London. Ours is by far the oldest of the churches in the Billericay & Little Burstead Team Ministry. Our first vicar started here in the year 1250, and our church building is steeped in history. This church was already hundreds of years old when the Pilgrim Fathers were gathering nearby for their voyage to the 'new world' on the 'Mayflower'. That doesn't mean that we are stuck in the past, nevertheless. You will find here a Christian community which is very much alive-and-well, at the heart of village life. This church is served by all the clergy and readers of the Billericay & Little Burstead Team. Our Team Vicar is Rev Darren Barlow, and our lay Reader is Ken Bearman. Lay people, in fact, play a major part in the running of St.Mary's, from leading services to preparing the church for Christmas. Our main Sunday worship is at 10.30am. Visitors are always very welcome. |
