Life

Life's short dream is passing,
Doors shut.
Why can I not DO everything, SEE everything?!
I would be all, and be in all,
I would be scholar, artist,
Statesman, poet, writer, bricklayer,
Office worker, politician, scientist,
Butcher, baker and candlestick maker!
Why must I be confined to small things?

The doors close.
I am in a prison of my own devising.
There is no escape.
I chose my course when I was not old enough,
Set my path before maturity.
The only way out is death.
