The Cup

Once, my cup was full,
Brimming with dreams and hopes,
My life was ecstasy.
I drank of my cup,
And the sweet wine of ambition
Intoxicated me.

My life before me
I could do all I wished
The future was a blinding light of success
And I was happy as I have never been
Since...

Since I dropped my cup
And the wine flowed out
Leaving only bitter dregs behind.
Sour and turned they are,
But is it not better to have dregs
Than no wine at all?
