Ok, this isn't a wildly good poem - I know it was influenced by a poem called "Scat cat" by Eleanor Farjeon (a copy can be found here if you are interested) which I had to learn at school.
This poem definitely lacks something but, hey, I'm fond of the old thing, and I did write it, after all....

The Quest

Follow the leader
Wherever he may go
Round and around throughout the rain and snow
He will never stop
Nor never take a break
Run, run, run until you reach the lake.

Find a way to cross it
Find it very soon
Or he will catch you and drag you to your doom
Keep running, keep running
Never take a pause
Or he will be upon you, sharp teeth and claws.

One lagged behind,
Never seen again
Be careful, be careful, now you're only ten
Run faster, run faster
Quick as you can
Now do you understand why there was a ban?

Now there is a bridge
We can lose him now
Cross the bridge, cross the bridge
Think every time you have a row

Return to the safety of a well-lit room
Never venture here again
Keep away! keep away!
Save this quest for another day.

Now this tale is done,
Learn from this
Taunt not nature - this you will not miss
Stay by your fireside
Safe in your nest
Never think again of this dreadful quest.
