This one was written in about 1997, on a wall covered in ivy which was outside my English classroom door.

Undulating Ivy

This is a place for those who fear
The unknown.
Here the night may not appear
Though the wind may howl and groan,
And beat about these walls of stone.

The ivy was a source of peace
For everyone within
For all at once all noise would cease
We could hear a pin
Drop on the tiled floor.

Just now the leaves are green
And the air is thick with heat,
The sunlight is reflected in the sheen
That I see as I sit in my seat.

Gazing out of the window
Paying no attention to the inside
I see the ivy rippling
With small birds seeking to hide.

Four walls to protect you
And a peaceful ivy tree
These are the only constants
In a world thats like the sea.
