Spring Concert 2000

The High Groove Steelers participate in many concerts and gigs during the school year. These include benefits, weekend work and outdoor concerts. Towards the end of the school year, the HGS are very, very busy! The good news is, there is no "homework." All practicing is done in class and on the day of concerts.

All students in these classes will have a chance to learn most of the instruments in the orchestra. There will also be field trips to play at local and exotic locations. And don't forget the band trip! Last year, we went to Myrtle Beach and won some top honors. See here for last year's awards.

In order to participate in the High Groove Steelers or beginning Steel Drums, students must be in the class.

Students will be graded on behavior, technique, attitude, and participation for formatives (30%) and tests, quizzes, and performances for summatives (70%).

Students in all bands are strongly encouraged to audition for all-shore band. Music is usually available the beginning of October. Please listen to morning announcements for details.

Because of the nature of the classes, students must take the responsibility to practice at home every night. Students must also practice correctly. We do not read out of books at this level. Students are expected to take on much more responsibiltiy. Our motto is "Practice at home, Rehearse in class." When students come to class unprepared, it causes everyone to suffer. Unprepared students will receive poor grades on interims. Parents, if your child is not practicing at home, please encourage them to do so. Theeir grade will reflect their hard work.

Parents, please try to attend band booster meetings! Thanks.

Please see "Uniforms" link at left for more information.

Band Booster meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month at 7. This date will be changed if there is a conflict with major school events, holidays, inclement weather. See the calendar for details.

Please call the band office at 819-0257, ex 131 if you have questions about a meeting.
