A Peaceful Place

Cemeteries have become my favorite place
some think my mind is gone
but I have found real peace there
among those moss covered stones.
I have friends they weren't as lucky as me
that have gone on to be with God
but I can still sit and talk to them
even though they're under the sod.
I stand on the grave of an ancestor
I never thought I'd find
he was born 240 years ago
a grave covered with vines.
Over there is the grave of a baby
that never had a chance
to know the sweetness of her first kiss
or her first high school dance
on down the hill under a tree
lies the grave of mama and daddy
I fuss with the flowers on their grave
and tell them that I'm happy.
Sometimes when you've nothing else to do
visit a cemetery
you'll find more peace than you think you will
and your day may become less dreary.
