It's one of the world's favourite beaches and was voted Asia's best in our on-line
poll. Here are the top ten things we love about it:
The
local talipapa-that quaint sandy lane lined with stores of all sorts.
It's a miniature version of markets around the Philippines and the place
where you'll see the most activity. It's fun to browse and even more fun
to haggle. Mainly kitschy, touristy stuff, but there are some nice pieces..

Diving at Boracay_
|
The Philippines is not renowned for its cuisine, but Boracay's restaurant scene
is developing. There is no shortage of good food at prices that don't
cost an arm and a leg, and the seafood is so fresh. We have some recommendations
in our Destination
Guide. Be adventurous - you won't go wrong with any of the dozens of
restaurants on the busy beachfront
Ok,
so the dive sites here aren't among the country's very
best. But, with 26
sites surrounding the island and with almost as many dive shops, the place
is a decent diving destination with decent prices. Not a bad deal
at all - considering you get to enjoy the best beach in the region when
you're ashore. Landlubbers, on the other hand, can immerse themselves in
something as enjoyable - a round of golf, or hours of relaxation at the
Mandala Spa.
We
love the nightlife! Beachside bars and discos tend to be full and
throb with excitement during high season (December to May). Things can get
wild, but never too rowdy, and you still have areas of laid-back low-key
nightlife which is the general mood during low season (June to November).
No girlie bar shows here yet, thankfully! This beach is good for the whole
family.
You
can enjoy the beach even when you're not on it. A sailboat ride lets you
relax as you recline above the waters - a great way to spend a lazy afternoon!
You can even island hop or picnic on a deserted beach. Rides are available
everywhere along the shore, and you needn't worry about the possibility
of getting gypped as they are regulated by the island's boat tour association.
In our Travel Tales section, a lot of tourists have written about this and other water
sports they particularly enjoyed.
In hotels, whether hut-type like budget-saving
Lorenzo Resort , ethnic
Nigi Nigi Nu Noos or relaxing
Friday's; or hotel-type like
comfy
Pink Patio, heritage-themed
Sea Wind, or exclusive
Nami Villas - friendly
service stands out. Facilities may not be five-star, but you can rely
on hotel staff to give you a memorable vacation with their typical island
hospitality. See more choices on our
Hotel List.

Boracay sunset _
|
Nothing
beats watching the sunset on a peaceful shore that isn't crowded
with tourists. Everyday at 5:00 pm, restaurants along the beachfront start
setting up chairs and tables on the shore so visitors can better enjoy
the scenery. Not to be missed. Best with a cold beer on hand, or a tall
glass of the island's fruit shakes.
White Beach Road is Boracay's main beachfront thoroughfare. No
motorised vehicles here, walking is the way to travel in this 3 km stretch.
Browse shops, check out restaurants, people watch - all guaranteed to
be interesting. You won't get lost if you check out our Map.
Tip: ditch the slippers, go barefoot - the sand is white and powdery.
The glorious, glorious weather! The sunniest skies prevail
from December to May whilst off-peak months from June to September bring
fresh winds and brief rainshowers to the quiet beach. Check
our weather
page for more information.
The beach, the beach, the beach - the fine sand, the clear waters
plus a nice calm sea with gently lapping waves and a sea floor that slopes
ever so gently. Perfect. No need to say more.
We'd love to help you plan a memorable vacation to this fantastic beach.
