The Wizardettes of Oz
Australian Soap Actresses

What is it about Australia? Our friends down under have a lot of things: the bar-b-cue, the dingo, the elevation of beer consumption to a cultural passtime. But nowhere can the Aussie contribution to world culture be more clearly seen than in it's women.

Australian daytime soap operas are a strange thing. They're not particularly good, but they are very watchable. You can join in halfway thru an episode of a series that's been running for 8 years, and be completely up to date by the time the credits roll. Like it or loathe it, that's some skillful writing.

But the most striking thing about daytime soaps is the standard of female eye-candy. Maybe the male eye-candy is good too - ask a female friend. But the totty is above reproach. For the purposes of the story, all these gorgeous women are queueing up to work in a shitty cafe for bog all money. If only life were actually like that. But just look at the list of women that have graduated from the world of Aussie soaps: Kylie Minogue, Kimberley Davies, Natalie Imbruglia, Emma Harrison, Holly Valance and Nicola Charles. Except that Nicola is English. But she's lived in Australia for almost all her life and starred in an Aussie soap, so we'll put her under this heading!

To add to this, there's Chantelle Barry, who was a contestant on the Australian version of Pop Stars. She was kicked off for allegedly stealing from another band member, but who cares. It was probably a manufactured story anyway.

So - all hail Australia, land of contrasts - and hot women.
