The 1980s was the golden age of the British "page three model", so called because their photo would appear on the third page of the Sun tabloid. This dubious "institution" was a strange instance of nudity in the otherwise puritan landscape of 1980s Britian. Even in the far more liberal atmosphere of Italy or Spain, nudity was reserved for the specialist magazines - not an allegedly "family" newspaper.
During the 1980s, Page 3 launched the career of Samantha Fox, Linda Lusardi, Gail McKenna, Maria Whittaker, Linsey Dawn McKenzie, Charmaine Sinclair, Kirsten Imrie and Kathy Lloyd. It also boasted a slew of lesser-known models, such as Lisa Forward, Rachel Garley, Donna Ewin and Sarah Thorne. It could even boast a generational link, with the mother/daughter pairing of Viv & Kelly Neves.
In more recent times, it has been a starting point for the likes of Kerry Katona, Nell McAndrew, Lucy Pinder, Michelle Marsh, Sophie Howard, Keeley Hazel and Ebony Gilbert.

While the golden age of Page 3 may be in the past, the current crop of models can measure up to anything that has gone before. Also, perhaps it's a sign of more liberal times, or just market necssity being the mother of glamour invention, but today's model are far more keen to pose together. And horray for that! Although everyone has their favourites, it seems that the central trinity consists of Lucy Pinder, Sophie Howard & Michelle Marsh.
