The New Varangian Guard is a mediaeval re-enactment group which strives to re-create, as accurately as possible, the life of the tenth to thirteenth centuries AD. In its early days, the society concentrated on combat and almost nothing else, but nowadays members deal with many aspects of the Middle Ages; costume, music, dance and mediaeval history and society.

A handbook this size can’t cover the full scope of our activities, but it will help you assemble a basic set of gear, and tell you a little about the Guard’s historical basis. 

Much of the content of this booklet comes from research done by Tim Dawson and Peter Beatson, whose contributions over the years have been invaluable.
