Marking and Cutting

A simple method of marking eggs for cutting is to put a rubber band around

the egg and mark with a pencil, however Egg Marking Jigs can be obtained

from most suppliers of Egg Crafting Materials.

Straight cuts can be made using a junior hacksaw but more complex cuts require a diamond tipped drill and/or carbide cutting disc used in a

mini/hobby electric drill.  High speed air operated drills with dust extraction

are ideal when working on large quantities of eggs.

ALWAYS wear a dust mask

when cutting egg shells.

Tips to help with cutting and fitting hinges.

To ensure hinges are located accurately for lids and doors it is advisable

to slit the shell where it is to be hinged. Fit the hinge with quick setting

Epoxy Adhesive before completing the cutting.

To avoid breakages when cutting long irregular shaped holes such as in

the lace cut should have the centre roughly removed and then the shape

tidied up. Pieces of shell can bonded to the inside of the shell to cover

holes using White Craft Glue and then filled with white plaster filler,

eg. Polyfilla, and smoothed with fine sandpaper when dry.
