Tools and Equipment for EggCrafting


 


Junior Hacksaw - Ideal for making straight 
cuts.  Hold the egg firmly while sawing.  Practice with 
hens eggs.

Bath Sponge - Remove some from the centre 
to rest the egg while you work.

Sponge Foam - Off-cuts of soft upholstery type 
foam are ideal for applying Pearlised Paints.

Paint Brushes - Use small Artists brushes, eg. No.5.
Cocktail Stick - Useful for mixing small quantities 
of Epoxy Adhesive and applying glue to filigrees, braids, etc.

Scissors - A small pair of pointed scissors, either flat 
or curved are required for trimming braids, etc.

Tweezers - About 6 inches (150mm) long with curved 
end are useful.

Pliers - Pointed nose jewellery pliers used to bend filigrees
and hinges to fit the curvature of the egg.

Scalpel or Small Craft Knife - Numerous uses.
Egg Holder - Spring egg holders are available which 
can be inserted through a hole in the egg when painting 
and glazing especially used for decoupage work.

Rubber Bands - Useful for marking out the egg before
cutting, stretch over the egg and mark with a pencil.

Egg Marker - Several different types of egg marker are
available from eggcrafting suppliers for marking out eggs.

Hair Dryer - Used for quickly drying Emulsion and 
Pearlised but not solvent based paints.

Sandpaper - Waterproof Silicon Carbide Paper (Wet & Dry
Emery Grades 200-400), many sanding and smoothing uses.

Monoject Syringe - Similar to a medical syringe 
but with a curved nozzle. Suitable for applying White Craft 
Glue.  Can be washed out with warm water.

Electric Mini-Drill - There are now many types of 
small craft type electric drill, either rechargeable or low 
voltage with a transformer. Necessary when progressing 
from straight cuts. Air drills similar to a very high speed 
dentist's drill are also available. Use for cutting and 
smoothing with Flame Drill, Slitting Discs and Burrs.

Flame Drills - Diamond coated tapered drill bits 
suitable for making holes and intricate cutting.

Carbide Slitting Disks - 13 to 19mm diameter 
cutting disks which fit on a mandrel and are used for 
straight cuts and smoothing edges.

Burrs - Various types and shapes like small grindstones, 
usually supplied in sets with Electric Mini-Drills for 
smoothing edges and other jobs.

Dust Masks - MUST be used when cutting egg shells
using powered cutting tools.
