Temple of Dendara Reconstruction
4th December 2001 - Step two - making the complete column. (click her to return to Step one)
Now the head of Hathor is complete it is copied and pasted three times and the four heads are arranged facing outwards. The blue mesh (left) shows them from above. The Capitol of the column is made from cubes, which are shaped, glued together and then slotted into the centre of the four heads. You can see how the two elements fit together from the detail of a painting made by David Roberts (left) and my 3D model (below) The textures and images were drawn with pencil, scanned into Photoshop and coloured in. The finished images were saved as BMPs or JPGs then applied to the surfaces in TrueSpace. The column itself is quite easy to make. It consists of seven cylinders and six torus. The surface of each cylinder will be painted with a different image. Here is completed column. Although it may look quite simple there are, in fact, 108 separate parts and over 20 separate images were made for the decorations. There are 24 columns in the hypostyle hall. However, it will not be necessary to make each one. I will simply copy and paste this column then make sight alterations to the others.
Next week - Step Three will be to make the gateway and the façade walls > | Step one | Step two | Step three | Step four |
