Fifty
kilometers south of Hurghada is the port
of Safaga. Most of the ships coming and
going to Saudi Arabia use this port.
During the Islamic Holy Pilgrimage,
thousands of pilgrims come to Safaga to
embark on their trip to Mecca. There is
nothing to do or see in Safaga,
nevertheless, a few kilometers off of the
port are a few good dive sites, such as
Sharm El-Naga. Also off the shores of
Safaga is the wreck of the recent Salem
Express disaster. The ship was coming from
Saudi Arabia and crashed into the reef.
This wreck dive used to be illegal,
however, diving centers still organize
boat dives to it from Hurghada.
