FOURTH GENERATION

16. Ormsby HAYNIE was born about 1689/90 in St. Stephen's Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia. He died before 12 Mar 1744 in Northumberland County, Virginia. Ormsby is identified in the will of his father: to receive jointly with his half-brother Charles, most of the remaining land of his father. Ormsby was one of 13 known children of Capt. Richard Haynie and his two wives. The name 'Ansby' was written by the parish clerk, or the parish minister, for Ormsby, which was the correct name as it appears from the court records of Northumberland County, Virginia. Ormsby Haynie was a farmer, however, to-date no indication has been found of any land owned by him.
An examination of existing records indicate that Ormsby was probably born in about 1689 or 1690 which was before his father's first wife, Elizabeth, died in 1697; was before his father claimed Elinor Ormsby as a headright; and before his father remarried in about 1700 or 1701. When Elinor, his father's second wife, wrote her will she did not call Ormsby "son" as she did others in her will, instead she specified: "To the heir of Ormsby Haynie - one shilling", which indicates that she knew very little of Ormsby or his family, even though they lived in the same parish in Northumberland County, Virginia.
The children of Ormsby Haynie were listed in the records of the St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia and in the will of his wife, Sarah.
Ormsby Haynie died intestate. Most researchers believe that Orsmby and his wife Sarah are buried in the Haynie Cemetary in Heathsville, Virginia. The inventory of Mr. Ormsby Haynie's personal estate was made at his house, 13 February 1743-44. It is a long farm inventory. (Record Book 1743-1749, Heathsville Court House). The administrator of his estate was his wife, Sarah Haynie.
Ormsby was married to Sarah DAWSON about 1729. Sarah DAWSON was born about 1695 in Northumberland County, Virginia and she died before 10 Apr 1749 in Northumberland County, Virginia. Sarah married a Neale first, believed to be Matthew Neale, and she names her two sons by Neale in her will. Sarah was the administrator of the estate of her second husband, Ormsby Haynie; administration papers filed on 13 February 1743/44 (Northumberland County Administrations, page 5).
On 12 March 1744, Sarah Haynie his widow and administrix, came into court and confessed judgement for the sum of 848 pounds of tobacco due as a debt to Matthew Quille, Jr. of Northumberland County. At the same time, as administrix, Sarah also confessed judgement for 621 pounds of tobacco due William Hughlett.
Sarah's will was written and recorded in Northumberland County Wills, p. 272. An abstract of the will follows:
