Skylark's Watch is more of a fortress than a city, but with the growth of the
mining industry in the Zephyr Mountains, the defensive position has also become
a trading hub for those merchants and miners who can brave the steep climb.
Skylark's Watch is a large, walled city, with the walls being a mixmatched
assortments of stone from multiple additions and expansions. Some old walls
still stand, as does the original fort, which dates back a few centuries and
has never been taken by enemy forces. Children dare each other to attempt to
enter the rumored series of tunnnels beneath the city, said to come from both
the tactical planning of the fort's commanders and from enemies who tried to
dig their way in. For the most part, these tunnels amount to storage caves and
wine cellars, with the occasional not-so-secret secret passage.
The town's become more of a tourist attraction as of late, with the borders
calming down and most merchants simply skipping Skylark's Watch and heading
straight for Underhole. The town's chock full of Dwarves, Humans, and Galka,
though all the races are represented. Students of Palestra Ferratus often come
here during off-months, to both relax and help hone their skills with the
soldiers.
