If you've read through my other pages you will know by now that I have had a
lifelong love affair with books and reading, fortunately inherited from my
parents and passed on to my own children. The question "Who would you
like to be stranded on a desert island with?" has always been answered
with "A supply of all my favourite authors' books!"
Some time before the wedding, I attended a talk given to our Craft Club by Di
Breeze, a local maker of books and handmade paper. I was entranced as she
showed us various books she had made. This opened up a whole new world of
creativity and I immediately signed up to do the course, which started after
my return from my travels.
Only a true booklover can understand the thrill of having a book, albeit a
small one, in your hands that you, yourself have made. My husband thought I
was crazy when I came home with the first little book in my hands, thrilled
with what I had achieved, my eldest daughter said "Cool!" and wants
me to teach her what I have learnt.
These few scans show some of the books I have made to date. I am still attending
the course and have loads to learn. I also intend to make a 'Memories of 2001'
Journal, the cover of which at present is circumnavigating the globe, as
my Brazilian Dimensional Embroidery 'sisters' work their magic on it.

Book 2 is one I
made at home to practice what I'd learnt, it used the same stitching
as 1, just a different cover detail.

The hourglass one is a concertina or accordion
book.

The shell has a
hinge on the front cover so the book can be opened.
