Frequently
Asked Questions
Where Can I get an ExCET registration
form?
ExCET
registration forms are available in the foyer outside the ExCET Coordination
Office (Room 212) on the second floor of Education South. You
can also reach us at 903-468-3082. Forms are also available
at the Mesquite Metroplex Center or by calling the State Board for
Educator Certification (SBEC) at 888-863-5880.
How do I register to take an ExCET exam?
First,
you must obtain approval from your department for the test you plan
to take. If you are taking more than one test you must have
approval for each test. If you do not have approval for a test,
your application will be returned. Next, complete the registration
form and make out a check or money order to NES (National Evaluation
Service). Finally, forward the completed application, check
and approval to the ExCET Coordination Office. We will process
your application and forward it to NES.
*Note: Elementary Education students in
Internship or Residency: All ExCET registrations must come through
your center coordinators. All education students who have finished
their coursework: If you have finished your student teaching and graduated
you must obtain approval to take a test from the department from which
you graduated (either Elementary or Secondary) and if necessary your
content area department.
When is the deadline to submit an application?
The
deadlines are listed on the Texas A&M-Commerce Registration Procedure

What if
I miss the deadline to register for the ExCET?
You
may still register after the regular deadline. NES charges an
additional fee of $30. You must obtain approval for the test
you wish to take. Submit your registration form in the same
manner you would for regular registration. You may also register
during the emergency registration period for an exam. You must
call 512-927-5151 during the Emergency Registration period and pay
by credit card. The fee charged by NES is an additional $70.
You will still need to submit an application and an approval form
to the ExCET Coordination Office in order to obtain a barcode.
Can I change my registration if I need to?
Yes,
you must complete the "Change of Registration Request Form" in the
ExCET Registration Bulletin. There is a $15 fee to do this.
The completed form must be postmarked by the regular registration
deadline for the test for which you originally registered.
What if I have not received an admission ticket for
the ExCET Exam?
If
you have not received an admission ticket one week before the Late
Registration Deadline you should call NES at 512 927-5151 to check
on your registration status. How do I find out my score? Test
scores will be mailed by NES approximately four weeks after the test
date.
*NES will not release any information to the ExCET Coordination
Office about your application or your scores. If you have a
question about your application you must contact NES at 512-927-5151.
I took the ExCET last time and I want to take another
test but I don’t have my score yet, what should I do?
If
you have taken a test recently we will wait for the scores from that
administration to determine whether or not you are eligible to take
another test.
*University policy states: First-year test takers and current cumulative
pool test takers who have failed ExCET exam(s) cannot take new ExCET
tests without approval from the department(s) whose tests were failed.
How many times can I retake a test?
You
may retake a test as many times as you need to pass. You must
submit a new registration form, obtain departmental approval and pay
the fee each time you retake a test.
Where can I obtain study guides for an ExCET exam?
Study
guides and preparation manuals are available on the
SBEC web site .
