Last night, I dreamt.
I dreamt that I was at my cottage on Gibson Lake with my family. We were all inside for some reason, in the living room and the library (which is really just an extension of the living room with tiny bookshelves stuck into the walls above the couches with old issues of National Geographic and about twenty psalm books). I was on the couch by the television, drinking an orange juice and gingerale. I put my glass on the coffee table, and I felt the ground move. Then I did the classic look-at-my-glass-and-watch-the-ripples-form move and I gasped. "Run!" I shouted. Of course, my family paid absolutely no attention to me. "Run!" I shouted again. "Alright, alright. Hold on a minute. God. You're always rushing," my mum says to me. "Just let me get my shoes on." I start freaking out, because by now, I can see the tyranosaurus coming across the lake, his feet pounding into the ground under the water (in the dream, the lake was really shallow and only came up to his knees in the deepest areas). I start pulling on Meaghan's arm, yanking her away from her book and out the kitchen door. "Come on!" I yell at my parents. My dad is kneeling in front of my mum, who is sitting on the kitchen counter now. He's putting her socks and shoes on, and she's swinging her leg like a little girl. Can't they hear the dinosaur? He's so close! I pull Meg out the door and into Gran's garden, through the cabbage patch and past the rhubarb. (Note: there haven't been any plants in this garden - well, non-weeds - since I was about ten.) I'm about to push Meaghan up the cliff behind the garden when I turn around and see my dad leaving the cottage, and my mum at the window. She's not leaving. She turns around and sees the tyranosaur (who is, oddly, inside the cottage, but has done no damage to it, as he fits perfectly inside - either he has shrunk, or the cottage has gotten much, much larger) and walks calmly over to a wooden barrel, signaling for us to run. She grabs onto the barrel just as the tyranosaur opens his mouth and swallows her, and it, whole. I start screaming, and the dinosaur turn to me and snarls. I push Meaghan and my dad up the cliff, and make my way, fuming, to the kitchen window, through which I have seen all this take place, pick up a fork from the window sill, and look streight into the tyranosaur's face, as he is now pressed up against the window trying to bite his way out. I start stabbing him in the head with the fork, screaming and yelling and crying. I'm stabbing through the glass, and little pieces imbed themselves in his skin as I continue to stab. My dad is now beside me, also with a fork, but he's stabbing through the mesh of the open half of the window. I stab through the glass and my hand goes through, but my skin doesn't break. I'm still yelling, and now the tyranosaur is too. He is dying. I think it is because of my stabbing, but I don't realize that the barrel my mother was holding when she was eaten was really full of rat poison.
The second half of my dream (because I woke up in a sweat after that first one) was about working at a publishing house. For some reason, Lara was the chief editor, but she kept making all these mistakes in punctuation and grammar. She even misspelled the name of the publishing house. I remember being really annoyed.
Anyway, those were my dreams last night. I had to call my mum this morning, to tell her about it all and to make sure she was still alive. She said "the things I do for my family!" and cackled like an idiot. I love my mummy.
So that's that. Oh, I tried to make things prettier today, but I failed miserably. Tomorrow, I will try again.
