Tyndrum Lead Mines

Off to the west to the lead mines at Tyndrum, the largest concentration of Pb-Zn vein deposits in the Scottish Highlands, worked from the 18th to the 20th Century. The mineralisation is related to the large Tyndrum Fault and Dalradian metasediments of the Grampian and Argyll Groups it brought together.  A walk through the woods to one of the streams draining the mine and I tried for some gold with the pan. After everyone had got bored and started climbing up to the workings with Graham,  we started getting a few tiny grains. Up on the dumps, the view of the hills around was superb. Getting back to the cars we went off for lunch at a café in Tyndrum which included birdwatching with the fish & chips.

After lunch while some went on to Corrycharmaig and the Serpentinite, others came back to start clearing the houses after a hectic and tiring, but highly enjoyable, week.

A farewell meal in an Aberfeldy Hotel gave Graham a chance to say cheerio,  until next time.
