What Can I Do to Help?

Attend Scheduled Events

Check back here as often as you can and attend the events that either the AFGE or SEIU has made arrangements for each activity chisels away at the proposed plans by making the public aware of the outrage the public in general feels about the proposed closing of the Canandaigua Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Your voice does count get out there and make your voice count.

Support our Elected Officials

Our Union Representative have started several local campaigns the first and probably most important activity is the Petitions that have been circulating our community. Get out there and circulate those petitions where you shop, where you worship and door to door when you can. Amo Houghton our local congressmen was recently quoted as saying that a 100,000 signature can stop anything in Washington.

Keep those Letters Coming

As we travel down this road together we have to keep those in power aware of the impact this pending proposal will have on our lives the lives of those we serve and on the community we live in. To do that we must use every opportunity to let them know how we feel and how those around us feel. The only way to do this is to write to them and do it often. Do it on paper, do it by email and do it often.

Show Local Businesses that VA Employees Have Buying Power

As employees we make an impact on the local economy, on August 29th the VAEA will be distributing electronic dollars when you make a purchase give one of them to the store owner and have them post it where it can be seen. With all the dollars spent in the local area residents will quickly get the picture of how important the loss of 800 jobs will be.
