Young
Enterprise is a national education charity founded in 1963 to forge links
between schools and industry.
The Young Enterprise Company Programme is a business competition for young
people aged between 15 and 19, whereby
they set up a company over the course of one academic year.
Each company has a Board of Directors, which is decided through elections
at the start and at the halfway point of the academic year.
The company holds weekly meetings to discuss issues, make products and
have updates. Although
business advisors from outside companies supervise the meetings, all the
work is done by the company themselves.
The
company raises moneys through the sale of shares or by other means.
It uses this money to make its product and sell it.
The profit made is then distributed between shareholders, for
example.
Each
participant
takes a Young Enterprise exam, which leads to a widely recognized
qualification.
