Tyrannosaurus Rex "Tyrant Lizard"
•  Large carnivore that walked on two large hind legs
•  Huge head with powerful jaws packed with saber-like teeth

This huge meat-eating dinosaur lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 85 million to 65 million years ago. T-Rex is one of the largest terrestrial carnivores of all time. T-Rex fossils have been found in western North America (Montana) and Mongolia.

T-Rex was 40-45 feet (12-14 m) long and about 15-20 feet (4.5 to 6 m) tall. It weighed 5.0-7.5 tons. T-Rex could run up to 15 mph (24 kph). The tiny forearms each had two clawed fingers that were too short for feeding or fighting. At the short and muscular neck was a huge head with well-developed muscles. The jaws were up to 4 feet (1.2 m) long with 50 to 60 replaceable teeth. The slim, stiff, pointed tail provided counterbalance for the enormous head.

The Lego model is very close to the real animal. The tail is a bit too long but using the short tail would have made it much too short. And it is only slightly too big for use with minifigs. It is actually much better than the T-Rex from the Dino Island subtheme.

Ouranosaurus "Brave Lizard"
•  Herbivore with a long low sail extending from the back onto the tail
•  Narrow head with a toothless beak

This bird-hipped herbivore probably used the sail for temperature regulation. Early in the morning the sail could collect heat by facing the sun. During the hot afternoon it could be turned away from the sun and thus disperse heat. Two complete fossils has been found in the desert of Niger, North Africa.

Ouranosaurus was 20-24 feet (6-7 m) long and weighed 3-4 tons. It had a short flexible U-shaped neck and a narrow head with a beak and numerous cheek teeth for grinding plants. Each hand had five short fingers that could be used when grazing small plants. It is closely related to Iguaonodon but the conical thumb spike is much smaller.

Ouranosaurus normally walked on four legs. But could also run slowly on two legs. Maybe it was hunted by Spinosaurus, a large sail-backed carnivore.

I don't think that Lego did a very good job in modeling this dinosaur. The tail is much too long and the sail is too tall. Furthermore it's much too big to be used with minifigs.

Spinosaurus "Spiny Lizard"
•  Large carnivore with a crocodile-like head
•  Large sail on the back

Spinosaurus got it's name from the long spines that protruded the back. These supported a large sail that maybe could be folded down. Spinosaurus lived in a very hot environment and the sail was possible used to regulate body temperature. The sail was too fragile for Spinosaurus to attack another large dinosaur.

But if it was cold-blooded the sail could have made Spinosaurus active earlier in the morning. That would have enabled it to attack other cold and still slow dinosaurs. Other possibilities is catching fish or scavenging. Only a few incomplete fossils has been found across North Africa in Egypt, Tunisia and Marocco.

Spinosaurus was 40-50 feet (12-15 m) long and weighed 4 tons. It walked on two legs but the arms was longer than on other Theropods and might have been used for support. It had a long flat crocodile-like head with relatively weak jaws and fewer teeth than other carnivores.

This is a modest looking model. The tail is a bit too long and the head is too big. And it is only slightly too big for use with minifigs.

Parasaurolophus "Besides Saurolophus"
•  Herbivore that walked on two legs
•  Very long crest on the head

This duck-billed Hadrosaur lived during the late Cretaceous. It foraged on the plains of western North America together with other Hadrosaurs like Corythosaurus, Gryposaurus, Prosaurolophus, Kritosaurus, Lambeosaurus and Edmontosaurus. These all feeded on different plants like the animals on the African savanna today.

Parasaurolophus was 30-33 feet (9-10 m) long and weighed 3-4 tons. It was a relatively fast dinosaur that walked on two legs. But it probably supported on the short front legs when foraging. The crest was up to 6 feet (1.8 m) long, but the size depended on age and gender. Adult males had the largest crests which suggests that it was used for courtship display. But as the crest was hollow it could also have been used to make a low-frequency foghorn-like sound.

Parasaurolophus might have been a herding animal. Although it was relatively fast it didn't have any defenses other than good sight and hearing. It used the toothless beak and the numerous cheek teeth to eat pine needles, leaves and twigs.

This Lego model is nice looking. It's only slightly too big to be used with minifigs.
