Shattered Moon by Kevin Ascott, 2002

At night I look into dark, sunless sky

Not a bird, nor a plane, nor a bat flying by
Encompassed in envy with ever-flowing tears
Stars from above erasing all fears
Blackness, darkness, no need to regret
No reason to hate life, no reason to fret
No way to be strangled, a ghostly resource
Life follows a trail with no way of recourse
The sun shines bright in some far-away land
Life reflected away by an invisible strand
Insignificant is what life can be
When you look to the heavens and all you can see
Is vast open space, lightyears away
Words choked in your throat with nothing to say
The stars are so beautiful in the sky up above
And the world is a land that you should always love
But the glittering heavens stay black in the night
So as I look up, I lose all will to fight
And the moon is missing, amiss in a cloud
And the voice in my head: increasingly loud
Where is the moon, the life of the sky?
Not a bird, nor a plane, nor a bat flying by
