Coloured Tears by Kevin Ascott, 2001

Tears burning the eyes

One's window of beauty
Wishing for acceptance
Was the original duty

Tears fighting the hurt

Caused by the horrible words
Why be seclusive?
Wishing to fly with the birds

Tears creating a shield of protection

Impermeable to new faces
No one to fill in
All the voids and all the spaces

Tears glistening in the sun

Yet no beauty is recalled
The mere fact of the issue
Can make anyone appalled

Tears wishing the pain would end

Wanting to be accepted
Not a single trait or talent
Can socially be respected

Tears wanting to be loved

That so called fuzzy feeling
No one looking beyond mere colour
No love means, equally, no healing

Tears corrupting the minds voice

Creating thoughts once unheard of
The mind wants to erase the images
Made by the words' anti-love

Tears associating the hurt to all people

Not allowing the good to shine through
One wonders how to cope with this
What do others do?

Tears settling the insides anger

Trying to diminish the pain
Ones body wants to walk it off
But the sun has turned to rain

Tears battling society

Wondering why colour makes a difference
How can such a simple thing
Hold so much significance

Tears searching for a soft word

A calming whisper of good
One must love the person alone
As everybody should

Tears ruining the judgement

Wishing the world was better
It can not be calmed by poetry
Or writing a personal letter

Tears living on

Even in a world of many races
Racism still hasn't died
It lives in many faces

Tears originating from pain

Only wanting to live on...
