Lego Announces four new titles
(by James Fudge - 02/10/2K)
Lego has revealed four new titles for the PC, to be released later this year:
LEGOLAND, LEGO Racers, LEGO Rock Raiders and LEGO Friends - the first title
geared specifically towards girls. Lego will develop several of the titles
across multiple gaming platforms including the PC, PlayStation and Nintendo 64.
"Our 1999 product line represents a number of important firsts for LEGO Media,"
says Gregg Sauter, North American Director of Sales and Marketing for LEGO
Media International. "LEGO Friends will be the first title in our LEGO
Software for Girls category, while LEGO Racers and LEGO Rock Raiders will
be the first LEGO products ever for the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation game
consoles. These new titles build upon the successful introduction of LEGO
Media's 1998 products: LEGO Creator, LEGO Loco and LEGO Chess."
LEGOLAND lets players age 6 and beyond design, build, and manage a LEGOLAND
Theme Park complete with rides and attractions taken right from the Lego
building system play sets. These include Western, Adventurers and Castle
play sets. LEGOLAND for the PC will retail for around $29.95 with a scheduled
release date of June 1999.
LEGO Racers lets racing fans ages 6+ design a race car and driver, which
they can then take out for a spin on 5 different race tracks. According to
Lego, the game features a special power-up system to gain the upper hand
over other racers. The game is based on on the Lego System Castle, Town,
Space and Adventurers play sets. Look for the PC, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation
versions of the game around July 1999 for around $40 - $60.
LEGO Rock Raiders is based on the Lego Systems play set of the same name.
The game is a 3D action-strategy game that lets players explore and excavate
in several underground tunnels on an alien planet. Players establish a base of
operations where they must mine precious energy and avoid evil rock monsters.
Energy is used to power ship engines and machinery. The player can also mine
Lego ore to create new vehicles. LEGO Rock Raiders is scheduled for a September
release on the PC and PlayStation for a retail price of $40-$45.
Finally, LEGO Friends is a game geared towards girls ages 5-10 years old.
Players are invited to join a group of "outgoing" girls, have adventures
with them, and join their pop rock band, Tuff Stuff. LEGO Friends includes
such activities as composing music, creating dance routines and preparing
a show for the ultimate gig at the girl's school. LEGO Friends is scheduled
for a retail release this September, with a suggested retail price of $29.95
