E3 Update - Legos Go High Tech
(Electronic Entertainment Expo)
(by CG Strategy Plus - 09/18/99)
LEGO
Models have undergone quite an evolution. While many may remember the beloved
building blocks as wonderfully simple and creative toys, the microprocessor
revolution has caught up them. The biggest example is the line of LEGO PC
products coming out this year.
LEGO Creator will be a sort of virtual LEGO experience. You'll be able to build
your own LEGO model or vehicle, then explore a LEGO universe that you slowly
build. LEGO Loco is the creation of a LEGO-based railway. And LEGO Chess will be
an beginning chess tool for kids. All three of these products are scheduled for
a November release.
LEGO is also sponsoring a race of sorts at E3,one in which Computer Games
Strategy Plus is a participant The goal: build a vehicle that can negotiate a
specially built course. These LEGO vehicles have onboard processors than can be
programmed through a PC. On-board sensors give the vehicles a semblance of sight
and tactile senses. We'll be going up against Happy Puppy, GameSpot, Next
Generation in this contest, so we'll provide more details at it develops.
