Self-Analysis » Conceptual Skills
I have always prided myself in being a very good thinker. As a child, I have been able to learn and utilize many advanced mathematical concepts that many students three years older than me have difficulty grasping. That, coupled with the fact I was a relatively solitary person allowed me much free time to hone my mind. As such, I have found that those skills have passed on to my career now as a college student.
Strengths
While it sounds inappropriate, I enjoy living to the typical stereotype that all Asians are book smart. I don’t necessarily consider myself being very studious, but the ability to quickly process information and give an immediate answer has been something I’ve honed throughout my life. While there are still a few mental speed bumps whenever I logic problems out, there is very little that I have difficulty with.
In addition to being able to logic through many puzzles, I have a high sense of creativity. By training my creativity as a little boy, I have learned to be able to think outside the norms for standard thinking. Consistent practicing of musical styles and instrumental skills in my high school band has not only taught me about perseverance but also ways on improvising a piece when I come upon a trouble spot. By applying what I have learned then to all situations in my life has allowed me to exceed any and all expectations that are tasked upon me.
Weaknesses
One of the most difficult subjects when it comes to intelligence for me is emotional intelligence. Using the Emotional Intelligence self-assessment test, I have discovered what areas I am weak in. While I have learned to be more understanding and perceptive to the emotions of those around me through my current situations, occasionally I find myself in a situation I could have potentially averted or diffused. Furthermore, I have recently come to acknowledge that I have developed a prideful characteristic; in my dealings with people, my speech occasionally echoes an arrogant tone. While I believe that confidence is a must in order to be able to accomplish any goal, I have come to understand that pride can also have a negative impact on the surrounding environment when used in the wrong way.
