Self-Analysis » Leadership

This is one of the few categories I feel that I must work hard on. While I know much of the basics on how to run a small organization, there are still much skills I know I have to develop. As such, this is the one area where I try to push myself the hardest.

Strengths
As a leader, I feel that whenever the need calls, I can put forth a plan of action that will benefit the organization I work in. It is easy for me to develop ideas and strategies to accomplish the goals for which has been previously set forth. As such, many of the staff in the student association I was a part of approached me for the purpose of helping develop a strategy to help either promote the organization better, or come up with the best alternatives to events that may be cancelled. The Leadership Style self-assessment test shows that I have a high inclination towards being task-oriented. As such, I feel that each team I am a part of is a means to the goal that we need to reach. By understanding each person I work with and assigning them roles that I feel best suits their abilities, I have been able to create a few fairly efficient teams. Combining this ability with my personality trait as an intuitive thinker, there rarely is a challenge that I do not feel that I cannot accomplish.

Weaknesses
Whenever I find myself in a leadership position, I constantly find myself with the internal struggle on determining how much authority I must wield in dealing with each group. Though I understand that each group and their goals are different, thus requiring different needs, occasionally I find me questioning myself on whether I am doing the right thing. While I never intentionally try to project this doubt to those who work with me, the more perceptive members tend to pick up on that, and a few have caused much drama as such. In one occasion, I found myself in the losing end of a power struggle within an organization; after much assessment I realized that in order to be a more effective leader, I must rid myself of the passive stance I fall back to during times of uncertainty. While I cannot change what has passed, I now know that in order to lead, I must lead with certainty that my decisions are correct.
