Just another little update on the KinKi Rumors: This comment was posted by someone on a mailing list which I'm in, and though I didn't really say much to anyone except my friends, I have a little more insight into that than I posted in response. Below are my ideas. Anyone else have any input?
Original article
There are already MANY rumours saying that KinKi Kids will break up
soon. I didn't believe it but really, recently they have more separated
interviews or anything else. An article of Suponichi, it said that from
11 dramas which KinKi Kids worked on, only 3 of them have both work
together. I don't know, but it gives me a strange feeling when I read
it. In Popolo 3, there's only Tsuyoshi's solo interview, there's even NO
Kouichi's solo interview as well. Luckily, it still has J-FRIENDS' count
down concert report (^^;;). The worst is that I saw TV Kids, there's a
photo which is written "*tv kids* Farewell album". Below the sentence,
they put "1996-2001". I was very very shocked when reading that title.
Does it mean that they'll break up truly?
My wittle weenie wesponse:
You heard this about the rumour of KinKi kids breaking up? To tell you the truth, if they did I would not be SO surprised, but it is soooooo unlikely. There have been rumours of that going on for ages and ages.... I remember reading about that rumour in a newspaper three years ago, and them once again saying it wasn't true. If people do break up, and they are famous, they would want to make a big scene, so they would still get publicity and therefore work after they break up. If there were so many rumours before about this, now would not be a good time to break anything off. People would say they expected it, and they would be forgotten.
Also, the KinKi Kids have never been that close. Even though they work together and are in the same group for singing and live shows, they worked apart always and actually do better on their own than together sometimes. They are not friends outside of the workplace, so there is no real chance for personal grudges to take their toll.
My personal comments: (I never posted this on the list)
I haven't really known the KinKi Kids for that long. I've heard about them for years, but only recently in January did I ever start any real research into who these people were. I'm being completely honest in what I say, however, when I say that if they did break up now, it wouldn't surprise me. Despite their apparent popularity, there have been enough rumours, and there has been enough singling out of the members that if it did happen, people would kinda shrug and go "oh well" and there'd be no big shock. I think that it would be for that reason, therefore, that they most likely wouldn't break up. I don’t truly know that much about Tsuyoshi's attitude towards work, but Kouichi as far as I can tell is truly dedicated and lives in the world that Kitagawa created for him. He isn't likely just to give it up by breaking up the talent group. Though I believe Tsuyoshi is more likely to make it out of the group (simply because he has a little more raw musical talent than Kouichi) and he seems to be a little more open to the idea of it (considering he does not seem to like Kouichi very much), I also think there's been a similar effect on him, and he is not likely to go anywhere, either. Despite their difference and tendencies to work alone, the two depend on each other and have worked always as the "KinKi Kids" "Kansai Boys" "Double Doumoto" or whatever they were at once time. The point is they were together, and it's part of their popularity that just can't grow as a loner.
I do agree, however, that after the release of the "D" album I feel that there just might not be any more left.
With the loss of their rather popular "Love Love Aishiteru" show and a retreat back into a more variety based program in which they lose their real names and become actors again, they are losing the improvisation that made them famous. This step for the band will make them fade back into the realm of forgotten actors, and therefore they won't be going out with a bang, as a true breakup or retirement would have done.
Any feedback? BTW, Though Kouichi will always be my favourite, I don't mean to put any bias into this opinion of mine. Don't let my opinion anger you.
