In this tutorial you will learn the basic shape and shanding of a sphere. This is the most basic shape to
learn to draw. It's a very easy and short tutorial. You can apply the sphere shading to any realistic portrait.
This can be the easiest tutorial or the hardest for most. There really isn't an in-between. First of all, you need a pencil, eraser and paper.
For this tutorial, you can free hand, or if you choose to be very acurate, you can use a compasss to make the circle lok perfect, or you can even use the botom of a cup or whatever you can find that's round.
To start off, just lightly sketch a circle (fig 1).Then decide where the light will be shinging on the sphere. You will have to lightly draw a smaller circle where the light will be directly hitting it (fig2). Next, start to lightly press down on your pencil in a fluid motion going along the side of the circle to create a "shaded look" the farther away from the smaller, inserted circle, the darker it should be (fig 3). As you lighten or darken the shading of the sphere, you should keep in mind a "half-moon" as the shape of the darker areas (fig 4). The darker shaded areas will be opposits from the smaller circle.
When you're done, you should have something that looks like a 3 dimensional ball (fig 5).
