NEPTUNE

The discovery of Uranus led indirectly to the discovery of Neptune. Because Uranus didn’t move across the sky as expected, astronomers thought there must be another planet, further out from the Sun. This was finally found in 1846 and named Neptune.

Neptune is another cold planet. It rotates every eighteen hours, and the tilt of its axis is similar to the Earth’s. So Neptune has seasons, but each lasts for forty-one years. Neptune has two satellites. The outer one is small and very insignificant. The inner one, Triton, can be seen through a large telescope and is one of the biggest moons of the Solar System.
