Introduction to Ancient Greece

Stadium, gymnasium, democracy. Each of these words can be traced back to ancient Greece for its origins. However, the peoples of Europe and North America owe the ancient Greeks more than words. Many of our ideas and ideals are a legacy of the Greeks' profound influence on the Roman and Islamic worlds. It would be hubris (another Greek word) to say that this website will tell you everything that there is to know about Greek history, geography and culture. However, it may wet your appetite to learn even more for yourself!
