October 4, 2003

After living with Brian and Diane Foskey since July 2002, the time has come for Puppy Sirius to return to the Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ for his formal training.

During the time he has been with the Foskeys, he has grown from a frisky young pup into the beautiful dog you see today.  As part of his early training, Brian taught him all the basic commands, socialized him and took him on many fieldtrips with the Eyes of Hope 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Club of Essex County, NJ.

It will be hard to let this dog, that has become a member of the family go, but go he must.  He was born to be a Dog Guide for the blind and has mission to fulfill.  His family and friends had a special Going Away party for Sirius, so they could come and say good bye to this wonderful dog they have all come to love!

As you can see everyone wanted to spend some time with the Guest of Honor.  He was supposed to return to the Seeing Eye on October 8th, but due to an injury to his hind foot (you may notice in the pictures it was wrapped), he was able to stay with the Foskeys until November 11, 2003.

Reports are that Sirius is doing well and settling into his new surroundings with other Seeing Eye dogs in training.  He passed his health check-up with flying colors and has been assigned to a trainer to begin his harness training.

Brian and Diane will be able to see him (only from a distance) when he does his town walk with his trainer.  After he completes his formal training, he will graduate as a Dog Guide for the blind and will be matched with a blind person to become their companion and guide.

GOOD LUCK SIRIUS!
You WILL be missed!
