Which Is Best?

In considering what is most likely to be practical to learn first between the 1/2 turn and the spear throw, it's hard to say.  The 1/2 turn allows for someone to pick up knives with variable shapes, balances, and lengths and throw them with decent results. The knife below (Fig 13), I was able to throw and stick the same as the others with a half rotation. Throwing this knife straight like a spear would be a remarkable thing. The spear throw is harder to learn, much harder to maintain practice at, and it's limited in the knives that can be used.  However, it's not so limited on distance variations.  If you are going to pursue hobbiest thowing as well, the 1/2 turn is probably the way to go since you'll be able to adjust some of the rotation factors in their throws as well.
